02. Authentication app configuration (2FA)

In this article, you'll learn how to install and configure an authentication app (commonly known as an Authenticator) on your smartphone. This is required if you want to log in to a VDR project that has an additional layer of security enabled — two-factor authentication (2FA).

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your login process. Along with your email address and password, you'll need to enter a one-time code generated by an app on your phone. This ensures that even if someone obtains your password, they won’t be able to access your account without the second factor — your smartphone.

✅Before you begin the configuration, make sure that:

  • Your VDR account has been activated via the activation link (if not, read the instructions here).
  • You have access to the VDR login page.

📲How to configure an authentication app — step by step:

Step 1: Install the authentication app

Download and install your preferred authentication app (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or a similar option) on your smartphone.

You can find the app in the App Store (for iPhone users) or the Google Play Store (for Android users).

If you already have an authentication app installed, you can skip this step and move on to the next one.

Step 2: Launch the app

Open the app on your phone. Follow the on-screen instructions to get started — accept the terms of service and allow access to your camera.

Step 3: Scan the QR code in VDR

In the app, select the option to add a new account (usually a "+" button), and then scan the QR code displayed in the VDR system.

After scanning the QR code, the app will generate a one-time PIN — enter it in the corresponding field in VDR.

Step 4: Trouble scanning the QR code?

If you're unable to scan the code, click the "Generate key" button in VDR. Manually enter the displayed key into the app, then copy the PIN code from the app into VDR.

Step 5: Activate authentication

Click the "ACTIVATE" button. After a successful setup, the system will automatically log you in to VDR.

From now on, every time you log in to a VDR project, you’ll be required to enter a one-time code from the authentication app on your phone, along with your email and password.

🛡️ Note: During your first login after activating 2FA, the system will display a message about available backup codes. These codes allow you to log in if you ever lose access to your authentication app. Download them and store them in a safe place — such as a password manager or a password-protected file.

You can also view the backup codes at any time by clicking your email address in the top-right corner of VDR and selecting "Recovery Codes".
